Joe Rodota Trail Pedestrian Bridge Replacement
Joe Rodota Trail Pedestrian Bridge Replacement
Sonoma County, CA
The Joe Rodota Trail is a 2.8-mile multi-use trail and Class One bike path located along an abandoned railroad line between the cities of Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. The trail is one segment of the West County Trail and offers opportunities for families with young children to experience the outdoors while walking, cycling, stop reading, and roller skating. The trail meanders along agricultural ranches and Laguna de Santa Rosa. Located along this stretch of the trail are three existing main trestle bridges, Bridges One, Two, and Three, respectively, with Bridge Two having been repaired in 2017.
The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department contracted with EBA for the replacement of two pedestrian bridges (Bridges 1 and 3) on the Joe Rodota Trail near Sebastopol. EBA’s services included site engineering, geotechnical exploration, civil engineering design, foundation design, construction documents, and repair/ replace project recommendations, which included new concrete abutments and improved flow channel and scour protection. Cost-effective bank stabilization and wall drainage improvements also were included. The site lies within a flood plain and required flood analysis and improved design to handle peak precipitation events.
EBA also provided Environmental Review services in the form of a Phase I Initial Site Assessment to identify potential sources of contamination for the Joe Rodota Trail Bridge property.
