This project provides a new permanent Special Waste Collection Center to serve the City of Elk Grove and surrounding Sacramento County areas. Design services were provided in 2011 - 2012 with construction in 2012 - 2014. The facility is expected to receive a LEED Gold certification.
The 13,000 sf building includes a covered canopy area for drop off of household hazardous materials and a depressed loading dock for the loading of packaged material for transport offsite.
EBA served as the prime consultant and coordinated all subconsultants for the building design. EBA also provided the civil design services for all site improvements including drainage, access, utilities, and storm water treatment.
The building floor plan includes a waste screening and identification/processing area, material separation storage bays with secondary containment sumps, a flammable material mixing room, a product reuse room, office/breakroom, restrooms, utility room, and a non-hazardous material storage area.
Specific components incorporated into the project included ventilation system; emergency generator; tank storage area for waste oil and used antifreeze; loading dock containment sump and pump; spill control containment; explosion control and blast wall for the flammable mixing room; provisions for equipment such as can crushers, oil filter crushers, can shaker, and platform scale; H2 occupancies; hazardous electrical classifications; epoxy floor and sump coating; fire sprinkler water underground storage tank.
